Land Soils and Agriculture Programme

The land, soils and agriculture programme works to achieve sustainable, productive and profitable agriculture land management: improved land condition throughout the region: and enhance the quality of water delivered to creeks, rivers and the Great Barrier Reef lagoon.

The goals of the land, soils and agricuture programme are to:

  • deliver improved water quality outcomes from both grazing and intensive agricutlural sectors; and
  • deliver improved biodiversity outcomes on priority areas of the Burdekin rangelands.

This program, along with the Supporting an integrated monitoring response for the Burdekin Water Quality Improvement Plan sub program form the basis for the delivery of the Reef Rescue program.

The foundation for delivery of land, soils and agriculture outcomes is through targeted, property scale investment, underpinned by extension, demonstration and property management planning. Investment will be directed towards identified priority catchments. This mode of delivery provides for the integration of other natural resource outcomes, including the strategic management of biodiversity and pest plants and animals.
