NQ Dry Tropics has acquired SPOT 5 satellite imagery for
the Burdekin Dry Tropics region. This imagery has been purchased
under a Whole of Government License which includes Federal
Government, State Government, Local Government, NQ Dry Tropics and
landholders of this region. NQ Dry Tropics acknowledges the
financial contribution of Geoscience Australia in this imagery
purchase.
Imagery has been acquired between 1 July 2005 and June 2007 as
weather has permitted (cloud cover of less than 10% over each
scene). There were approximately 72 scenes captured across the
region. Each scene covers approximately 60 square kilometres. Each
scene was orthorectified (positioned to geographic space and
adjusted for elevation distortions), then mosaiced to 1° in
latitude to 1° 30' longitude rectangle areas to match the map
areas of the 1:250,000 topographic series.
This processed SPOT 5 Imagery is available to above licensees in
the following formats:
- 3 Band Natural Colour Scenes with a spatial resolution of
2.5 meters (approximately 1:10,000)
- 4 Band XI Scenes (Middle Infrared, Near Infrared, Green and Red
Bands). Middle Infrared at a spatial resolution of 20 metres and
Near Infrared, Green and Red at 10 metres). Best at approximately
1:25,000
- Panchromatic (Black and White) at a spatial resolution of
2.5 metres (approximately 1:10,000)
Natural Colour and/or panchromatic imagery provides the best
base to acquire property level infrastructure such as watering
points, buildings, fences, pipelines and tracks. This information
can be collected using a variety of software such as ESRI ArcGIS,
Farmkeeper, Phoenix and other commercial and non-commercial
applications. When requesting imagery, please indicate which
software package you will use as this will assist us in preparing
best formats for delivery.
XI Imagery can be used to highlight land use or land type
information across a property. Whilst this is a more advanced
application of the imagery, it can be invaluable when undertaking
natural resource management activities on the property, or in
preparing a property management plan. If you wish to know more
