GPS Photo Link is an exciting piece of software that allows
users to manage all digital photos taken by date, time and
geographical location. The software works by matching the date and
time of photographs taken to the date and time of locations stored
within a GPS unit. There is no physical link !! After processing
the software will create a shapefile of all locations where a
photograph was taken and also imprint a date, time and location (by
latitude/longitude or Easting/Northing) onto each digital
photograph. Comments can also be imprinted on each photograph to
provide an awareness to a user of the intent of the photograph.
The shapefile can then be used within a software package like
Arcmap to provide an indication of each location where a photograph
was taken.
This has significant application in the Natural Resource
Management field for monitoring and evaluating how an environment
has responded to a particular action. An example of this is weed
control. The user would take a GPS Photo Link photograph of a
particular patch of weed infestation, record the treatment applied
and then take a series of GPS Photo Link photographs over time to
see how effective the treatment was.
